Kayla's BHBA’s award interview Wednesday 11 August 2021
Join Seamus and Kayla on their fab day in London!
You guys may have seen on our socials recently that our Junior Stylist, Kayla, has been nominated for Assistant/Junior of the Year, at this year's prestigious British Hairdressing Business Awards in London.
Before the big night, nominees are required to attend an interview at the venue, Park Plaza Westminster. Seamus accompanied Kayla from our Manchester salon down to London in support, a fab excuse for a couple of days in the Big Smoke too!
Seamus put together a little blog diary of the trip. Enjoy!

So we’re on the way to London to support our fabulous Kayla, as she prepares for her face to face interview to show all of her supporting evidence in her entry for Assistant/Junior Of The Year 2021 for this Year's
Hairdresser's Journal British Hairdressing Business Awards - a prestigious yearly event at London's Park Plaza hotel, awarding the best achievements in the UK salon industry.
After a really pleasant train journey from Manchester Piccadilly we arrived into London Euston.
That’s where the smell of London hits you. So much traffic, the noise, sights, the colours...
We jumped into our cab and headed to our hotel for the night, which is the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge. This is the hotel that the actual awards ceremony is in October, so we thought staying here gives Kayla the opportunity to get a feel of the place. To visualise. To feel the energy of the place. We’re even going to the part of the hotel where the event will be held so Kayla can further visualise herself picking up that award!
We are in the heart of the big smoke with Big Ben just over the road. This is the place to be. Where dreams come true.
So quick shower and out for dinner and into Soho for a few relaxing drinks to soak up this London vibe. Be rude not to right?
Then home to this beautiful hotel to lay down our weary Mancunian heads, (Kayla is actually from Bournemouth but is our honorary adopted Manc).
Early rise to have a little breakfast walk to help us regain our clarity before getting ready for the interview, which is in the hotel also, so everything is perfect and to hand.
Several hours later...
After a fab night sleeping practically next to Big Ben, we’re up and out for an early morning walk and some breakfast. The interview was due to start at 12:30pm so we arrived for 12:15pm - fashionably early as ever! No nerves on show at all and Kayla was warmly welcomed into the room where the judges were waiting to conduct the interview. Of course, Kayla is already invited to the main award ceremony in October so today's interview is largely a formality to get to know the candidate better and discuss the award ceremony.
I sat in the welcome room in anticipation for her interview to finish, more overcome with a proud excitement than any nervousness. I sit and reflect on how Kayla has come a long way on her journey with us as a salon receptionist to a talented and enthusiastic junior stylist with mountains of promise.
I can hear the muffle of voices from inside the interview room, immediately followed by laughter echoing through the glamourous hallways. Obviously going well then!
After just over half an hour later, (and even more laughter), Kayla is done, dusted and beaming with joy. Job done. Interview gone well as we expected. Now we are ready for the big night!
